2017 Subaru Outback Touring, Legacy Sport Bound for Dealerships This Summer

CHERRY HILL, New Jersey — The 2017 Subaru Outback Touring, a new flagship model, and the new 2017 Subaru Legacy Sport will spice up Subaru showrooms this summer.
Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
The 2017 Outback Touring is an appearance package that bundles a dark gray grille and 18-inch wheels with dark gray accents. Other cosmetic enhancements include low-profile roof rails in a silver finish, along with lower cladding and chrome Outback badging.
Brilliant Brown is a new Outback exterior color. A new Java Brown cabin treatment on all Touring interiors includes perforated leather-trimmed upholstery, door panels and armrests with ivory stitching.
A heated steering wheel is a standard item on the Touring model.
Buyers get a choice of either the 175-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or the 256-hp 3.6-liter V6 engine.
The 2017 Legacy Sort features a dark gray grille, fog lights with gloss-black housings and 18-inch wheels. Other touches include chrome-accented rocker trim and silver-finished turn-signal mirrors.
The cabin gets a two-tone look that combines gray and black cloth upholstery and blue accent stitching.
The Sport package includes a standard Subaru Starlink 7.0 Multimedia Plus system.
Reverse automatic braking and high-beam assist debut on the 2017 Outback and Legacy. Reverse automatic braking helps the driver to avoid a possible crash when the vehicle is moving in reverse.
The Outback competes against the Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Jeep Cherokee and Toyota Highlander.
The Legacy takes on the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Passat.

2017 Audi RS5 commences on-road chassis testing

Audi is testing the running gear of its next-generation super-coupé under the body of an S5





Audi has been spotted testing the running gear and engine of its next-generation RS5 super-coupé in a mule wearing the body of an S5.
At first glances this development car looks like a 2017 S5, but eagle-eyed onlookers will notice it features much larger front air intakes and larger wheels on a wider track, revealing the true identity of what lies beneath.
The larger intakes have been added to feed the RS model’s more potent engine, which, despite being unconfirmed, is expected to switch from today’s normally aspirated V8 with 444 bhp to a twin-turbocharged V6 producing around 500 bhp.
That should see the new four-wheel-drive coupé capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in around four seconds.
History says that the RS model will arrive late into the A5 model’s life cycle, but insiders say the next-gen RS5 will be launched earlier in order to meet growing demand.
When it arrives, the RS5 will rival BMW’s M4 and Mercedes-AMG’s C 63 coupé. Pricing will likely increase slightly on the current car’s £58,365.

Audi Celebrates Racing Victories with Limited-Run R8 V10 Plus


The racing version of Audi’s new R8 supercar had a good year, making an amazing debut at the 2015 24 Hours Nürburgring by taking home the trophy in its first race. Now Audi has cooked up a special version of the R8 road car, called the R8 V10 Plus Selection 24h, to celebrate the success of the R8 LMS in GT3-class competition.
If you’re a die-hard Audi racing fan, you’d better get to Germany ASAP. Audi is only selling 24 copies of this tricked-out R8 in its home country. Orders began today, and the Selection 24h costs 229,000 euros (roughly $260,000), or around $45,000 more than a standard R8 V10 Plus costs in Deutschland. For that sum, you do get a supremely cool-looking R8. The exterior is painted in the same Suzuka Gray hue as the R8 LMS, with black and red highlights on the rockers, front spoiler, rear diffuser, and the R8’s signature side blades. There’s also an “R8 24h” logo, along with black tailpipes, and black-painted 10-spoke wheels, while the interior is trimmed in Rotor Gray leather and features a microsuede headliner and carbon-fiber trim throughout.

One unique touch is that each of the 24 cars has its serial number displayed on the illuminated door sill. Special entry lights exclusive to the special-edition car project the R8 logo onto the ground when the door is opened. Audi’s laser lighting system—not offered on the U.S.-market R8—also is standard. Beyond these frills, the R8 Selection 24h comes with performance-enhancing options including adaptive dampers and dynamic steering, although its 5.2-liter V-10 engine is unchanged and makes the same 610 horsepower as the standard R8 V10 Plus. In our testing, that combination was good for a blistering 0-to-60-mph time of just 2.7 seconds.

While this limited-run R8 doesn’t get our blood boiling quite as much as the brutal R8 LMS, it’s still a nice homage to the racing car. Look for the Selection 24h to be on display at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring later this month, where its GT3 counterpart will be tearing up the track in an attempt to repeat its winning performance.

2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 Future Cars

A prototype sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro that most likely previews the next-generation track-focused Camaro Z/28. The Camaro ZL1, with its 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 borrowed from the Corvette Z06, is the Camaro iteration all ate up with motor. This Z/28, as before, will be the Camaro that’s all ate up with eatin’ up, chewing, and spittin’ out racetracks. Just look at this camouflaged test mule’s borderline ridiculous aerodynamic add-ons, tires as wide as Kansas, and gaping air intakes all working toward a single purpose: keeping the Z/28 planted and cool while circling a track at abusive velocities. Is it possible that the prototype pictured here is some sort of club racer Chevrolet is developing? Yes, but the large-ish wheels, normal-looking side mirrors, and other conventional-looking details strongly dampen that prospect.
Why It Matters: As Chevrolet fleshes out the sixth-generation Camaro lineup, it’s gradually turning out a bunch of remastered hits from the car’s successful fifth-generation run. Since the latest Camaro arrived, we’ve already seen the introduction of a new 1LE performance package (now also available on the V-6 Camaro for the first time), the new ZL1 coupe, and the new ZL1 convertible. The only notable variant yet to arrive is the Z/28, a nameplate that goes back to 1967 and was reintroduced to the Camaro family late in the fifth-gen model’s life cycle to denote a no-holds-barred track-focused beast. Critically, Ford has been stealing headlines—and winning a 10Best Cars award—with its incredible Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R, meaning Chevrolet will be counting on the Z/28 to yank (hard) on the spotlight and get it focused on its muscle car. Based on this car’s wild body add-ons, we think Chevrolet is putting quite the effort toward unseating Ford’s GT350.

Platform: As before, the Z/28 will start life as a regular Camaro, but Chevrolet will give it a total makeover to enhance grip, downforce, and braking, as well as the cooling of critical components. We also expect the Z/28 to be lighter than its Camaro siblings, although stripping weight from the newly lightened sixth-generation Camaro won’t be as easy as it was for the heavier previous-generation car. These spy photos reveal how hard-core the new Z/28’s aero kit will be, with a shelf-like front splitter building on the already prodigious proboscis on the outgoing model, Corvette Z06–like rocker-panel extensions, and a colossal rear wing that appears to be adjustable. Curiously, this prototype lacks an elaborate—i.e., finned—rear diffuser, but perhaps it doesn’t need it with all of those other downforce-enhancing bits. In addition to the splitter up front, the front fascia wears aggressive canards on its cheekbones, as well as a vented hood (a design that Chevrolet has employed in the past to reduce front-end lift at high speeds by evacuating engine-compartment air) that appears similar to the one on the new ZL1. Speaking of vents, the grille on this Camaro is larger than the opening on normal Camaros and similar to that on the supercharged ZL1; it is flanked by two smaller intakes that, again, are larger than similar openings on other Camaros.
The fenders are pumped out to accommodate mega-wide tires front and rear, and the wheels appear to be quite large—we estimate that they’re 21-inch rims, one inch larger than those on the Camaro SS. Massive front and rear brake rotors very nearly fill those wheels, too. Chevrolet has cheekily placed Easter eggs on Camaros it has tested at the Nürburgring before—they appeared on a ZL1 test mule last year—which has us wondering about this Z/28 prototype’s bright-yellow Corvette Grand Sport–style hash marks taped to each front fender. This could hint at the origins of some Z/28 parts—we wouldn’t be shocked if the car’s brakes and adaptive-suspension dampers were donations from the Corvette Grand Sport—or it could be pure fun on the engineers’ part, a simple break from that dreary black-and-white camouflage.

Powertrain: Besides looking bad-ass and being capable of defying physics, the previous Z/28 sat apart from the rest of the Camaro family by virtue of its engine. While every other Camaro utilized a 6.2-liter V-8 (either naturally aspirated or supercharged), the old Z/28 boasted the naturally aspirated 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 also used in the C6 Corvette Z06. The special engine made 505 horsepower, fewer than the supercharged V-8 in the contemporary ZL1, and yet the Z/28 was the most expensive Camaro available. We suspect that, this time around, the Z/28 may get a horsepower rating commensurate with its position at the top of the Camaro lineup. For reference, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 is putting down 640 horsepower from the same supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 used in today’s Corvette Z06 (which carries a ceremonial 10-hp advantage over the Camaro). While the Z/28’s power level is a mystery, we’re fairly confident the Z/28’s extra power will come from the very same supercharged LT4 V-8 as the ZL1. A six-speed manual transmission should be standard, while General Motors’ new 10-speed automatic—which debuted in the Camaro ZL1—may be optional.
Estimated Arrival and Price: Even though this Camaro Z/28 prototype appears largely complete, we suspect that extensive durability testing and a wish to give the Camaro ZL1 some breathing room at launch will push its reveal until next year at the earliest. Assuming a January debut at the 2017 Detroit auto show, the Camaro Z/28 would come to market sometime next year as a 2018 model. The new one should cost roughly the same as the previous Z/28, so figure around $75K.

Genesis will offer plug-in hybrid drivetrain options

Genesis, Hyundai’s new luxury brand, will offer plug-in hybrid drive train options in some of its future models.
In an interview with Automotive News, Dave Zuchowski, CEO of Hyundai USA, said that the Korean automaker is working on multiple plug-in hybrid options.
While some of these plug-in hybrid options will appear on Hyundai badged vehicles, others are destined for vehicles which are being developed for the Genesis luxury marque.
Zuchowski believes that “alternative-propulsion engines are going to be really important, even more important in the luxury market than they are in the mainstream market”.
In Zuchowski’s view, plug-in hybrids allow consumers to enjoy the benefits of electrification but with a “safety net”, and are a good interim solution before hydrogen fuel cell vehicles become more affordable and popular.
That said, the head of Hyundai America declined to indicate which Genesis models will be offered with the plug-in hybrid drivetrains.
In the US, Hyundai’s luxury marque will have an initial lineup consisting of the G80, an updated and rebranded Hyundai Genesis, and the new G90, a full-size sedan that effectively replaces the Hyundai Equus.

Following on from this, the company will launch a smaller G70 sedan to take on BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class,Audi A4, and Lexus IS. Current plans also call for the Genesis range to have two SUVs and a coupe by the end of the decade.
Australia
It’s not clear whether some or all of the Genesis’ future plug-in hybrid options will be offered in the Australian market. The range-topping Genesis G90 seems to out of the local picture at the moment as it won’t be built in right-hand drive.

2018 Peugeot 508 to bring major design changes


Peugeot boss Maxime Picat has confirmed that the 508 will continue beyond 2018, when the current model is due to be replaced by a new generation, according to a new report.
UK website Autocar reports that while the brand’s large car will live on, it will be restyled in an attempt to broaden the 508’s appeal beyond its core markets in France, Spain and Belgium.
Speaking to Autocar, Picat confirmed that the car would be replaced when it reaches the end of its current life cycle around 2018, insisting that “the question is not ‘will we replace it?’, because [they] know [they] should”.

Major changes from the current model are likely to focus on design and technology, with Picat suggesting that, to remain competitive in the segment, the 508 needs to be refreshed and have its capabilities changed.
“The question is whether we repeat the same 4.8-metre saloon (sedan) design or not. [The segment] the car is in is losing customers and we also see that it isn’t a segment that customers dream of moving up to, so the opportunities for sales are going to decline step by step if we stand still,” he said.
“So it might be that we look at changing some of the car’s capabilities in order to compete. We won’t take a big risk, because we don’t have a huge car park of customers we can risk losing, but we can move the lines of where the class is and we can be a little bold.”

“We have a solution which, we think, is a good surprise – but I will not tell you more,” he added.
Back in 2014, Picat hinted that the next-generation 508 range could be bolstered by a ‘four-door coupe’ body style, alongside the more conventional sedan variant, in similar vein to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLS-Class siblings.
Last year, a report by Automotive News quoted PSA Peugeot Citroen’s CEO, Carlos Tavares, saying that the next-generation 508 will be equipped with a larger selection of driver assistance features, including partial autonomous driving technology.
The next Peugeot 508 is expected to ride on the company’s EMP2 architecture, competing with the Ford Mondeo, Holden/Opel Insignia and the European-market Renault Talisman.

2016 Ford Kuga: Australian update adds Sync 2, larger screen at entry level

The 2016 Ford Kuga has been given another update for Australia and, while it’s not the recently revealed styling and technology update, buyers at the entry level may be pleased – depending on their priorities, and how soon they buy.
When the Kuga was last updated for Australia, in November last year, the company added its newer Sync 2 infotainment system and a larger 8.0-inch main display to the up-spec Trend and Titanium models. The entry-level Ambiente continued with Sync 1, however, and featured a smaller 4.2-inch display in the dash.
This week, the Ambiente picks up the same technology updates gifted to its more expensive siblings, gaining both Sync 2 and the same 8.0-inch colour touch screen as standard equipment.

This upgrade to the entry-level Ford Kuga brings an in-dash rear-view camera, a higher grade of connectivity and voice control, along with satellite navigation with traffic monitoring.
The 4.2-inch display in the instrument cluster is also upgraded, gaining more colours, a more detailed overview of vehicle information, and turn-by-turn navigation instructions.
Dual-zone climate control is now also standard, offering individual heating and cooling options for the driver and front passenger.


The model is otherwise unchanged, with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine providing 110kW and 240Nm in front-wheel-drive models and 134kW/240Nm in all-wheel-drive variants. Up-spec Trend and Titanium models feature a 178kW/345Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
The upgrades are initially offered as a free enhancement on Ambiente models ordered before the end of June, but from July 1, the price of entry will increase by $1260 across all three Ambiente variants.
2017 and beyond
In March, Ford unveiled a styling and technology update for the Kuga (known in the US as the Escape), adding a new look at both ends, and the car maker’s even newer Sync 3 infotainment system.
Local timing for that upgrade is still to be confirmed, but a 2017 debut is likely.

Hydrogen cars: new future for fuel cell vehicles













Hydrogen cars are finally here but what are they, how do they work and should you buy one?

Local authorities, health trusts, police forces, fire brigades and private companies can now bid for £2 million worth of Government funding to add hydrogen-powered vehicles to their fleets.
The money will cover up to 75 per cent of the costs of new vehicles bought by April 2017, as well as the cost of running them for up to 3 years. Support will also be available for the leasing or renting of cars, insurance, hydrogen fuel and servicing.
The fund, launched by the Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles, could bring up to 100 more hydrogen fuel cell cars and vans onto UK roads by next spring – the equivalent of tripling the number of vehicles currently in use.
Transport minister Andrew Jones said: "We are always looking at new ways to make the vehicles of the future cleaner, and hydrogen fuel cells are an important part of our vision for almost all cars and vans to be zero-emission by 2050."

Can you really live with a fuel cell car?

Hydrogen is the future. It’ll replace our need for petrol and diesel and save the environment. Two bold statements, but ones that have been made by transport experts for more than a decade – so, is 2016 the year when it becomes reality? With three new fuel-cell models on sale, a UK Government grant in place and funding committed for dedicated and accessible hydrogen refuelling stations, the pieces are starting to fall into place.
But is it really a wise decision to take the plunge right now? To find out what it’s like to live with a fuel-cell vehicle that emits nothing but water, Auto Express took delivery of the Hyundai ix35 for a week and put it through its paces.
The ix35 joins the Honda Clarity FCV and Toyota Mirai as one of three FCVs on sale, and it’s probably the least conspicuous. Take off the fuel cell decals, and it looks like the regular ix35, whereas the Mirai and FCX Clarity have gone for a more futuristic approach with their respective designs. Anonymity is part of the Hyundai’s appeal, as is the fact it feels like a regular car from behind the wheel. Sure, the steering is a little heavier through corners, yet that’s offset by the instant acceleration delivered from a standing start and the exceptional interior refinement – the likes of which you’d expect if you were in an electric vehicle.
It’s not our first experience living with an alternatively fuelled vehicle, either. We reported on our week with an LPG-powered car, and we’ve spent months with pure electric, plug-ins and range extender models.
After driving EVs, range anxiety is nothing new to us. Our time living with the Hyundai – which took in a mixture of city driving and long-distance trips – brought a new type of worry, though. The ix35 claims to have a range of anything up to 400 miles, thus giving you pretty much free rein to go where you want. However, driving on the motorway at 70 mph for 60 miles really hurt that performance and the trip computer was soon telling us we had just 200 miles left.
It still sounds like a decent amount when you consider a Nissan Leaf will cover just 100 miles on a full charge, but run low in a battery car, and the worst you have to do is stop for a few hours and plug it in to the growing network of chargers. And with a range extender like the BMW i3, you can simply head to a petrol station if it all goes wrong.
And that’s the real issue with hydrogen. If you’re running low, you’re unlikely to be able to refuel anywhere convenient or close – there are just four publicly accessible sites in the UK with several more operational on private land.
We’d scheduled a refuelling stop in the middle of our week at the site near Heathrow Airport, and while we’d planned our journey time, by the time we got to our topping-up destination, the fuel light was flashing. That wasn’t helped by the trip computer range estimate dropping 10 miles from when we parked the Hyundai at night and got in it the next day. In total, we’d managed a disappointing 227 miles – and most of that had been run in Eco-mode to eke out as many miles as possible.
Still, the process of refuelling is very easy, as it mirrors the way you’d fill up a traditional petrol or diesel car. The whole process takes a few minutes – you just lock in the pipe and wait until you hit the brim. Beware running it too low before fuelling, though, as the hydrogen won’t refill properly due to a lack of back-pressure in the tank.
Robin Hayles, Hyundai’s special vehicle manager, has driven 8,000 miles in this ix35, and he admitted that this infrastructure remains the biggest problem: “If you can’t fill a car up, then you simply can’t use it.”
But this will change – and soon. A Government-readiness project means station expansion is already underway, and by the end of this year, there will be 12 to 14 consumer-facing outlets – a further three will be funded by the EU.
Jump ahead to 2020, and it’s estimated that we’ll have 65 stations across the UK covering most major areas, which will make day-to-day living much easier. Ben Madden, from Element Energy consultancy and UK energy projects, told Auto Express: “Once we get to that point, we’d expect it to be easier to build stations and it will mushroom, driven by the private sector. It’s going to be a difficult phase, but then it gets easier and easier.
“I’m confident for the first set of stations, but the second lot needs a collective will from manufacturers and investors, plus it requires Government help.”
Our week with the ix35 – which totalled 303 miles – also took us down to a certain flat-packed furniture store in Croydon and revealed there’s no compromise to storage with a hydrogen car: there aren’t any hefty tanks taking up valuable boot space.
One concern many motorists do point to with hydrogen is safety and worries about a repeat of the Hindenburg airship disaster from the thirties. However, these are misplaced, as Hayles explained: “The tanks are rated twice as highly [as required] from a safety perspective – you won’t damage one of these in a road accident. It’s an unfair comparison, too, because people get into a petrol car and don’t think about sitting on 50 litres of volatile fuel as they accept this as a danger – hydrogen is no different.”
Aside from infrastructure, the hydrogen car will live and die by running costs. At this moment in time, purchase prices are high, although they will undoubtedly fall – just as they have for hybrids – plus there’s the Government grant. Electric cars can run for as little as 2p per mile, yet hydrogen vehicles won’t match that. Our car delivered 227 miles on 5.6kg of gas, which set us back £56 (hydrogen costs around £10 per kg). That’s pricier than a petrol or diesel in terms of miles per pound, plus you have to refill more often.
Range won’t change, as the tech under the bonnet can’t be refined much further – if you need to do more miles, the simple solution is to fit a bigger tank. What will make it more appealing is the price of hydrogen. As more cars hit the road, the hope is that the gas will fall to about £7 per kg, which will make it a more appealing financial decision.
All this prompts Hayles to declare “the days of the traditionally fuelled vehicles are numbered in terms of the mass market”. We can’t really argue given political and environmental policy, but the question remains whether hydrogen really is the answer. Our week with the fuel hasn’t left us convinced that hydrogen will overtake plug-in hybrids and battery electrics any time soon.

What is a hydrogen car?

Hydrogen cars are basically electric cars. They have electric motors that drive the wheels just like an electric car but the difference lies in the battery. Whereas an electric car stores its electricity in a conventional battery (usually lithium ion or nickel metal hydride), hydrogen cars store their electricity in the form of hydrogen and convert it back to electricity in what’s known as a fuel cell.
A hydrogen fuel cell creates a chemical reaction with the hydrogen that generates electricity, water and heat. Just like an electric car, there are no harmful exhaust emissions. 
The key advantage of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle over a pure electric vehicle is that it can be refuelled with more hydrogen in seconds, just as you would fill an internal combustion-engined car with petrol or diesel. There’s no long delay while you recharge a battery.       

Is hydrogen fuel cell technology green?

Hydrogen fuel cell cars have no exhaust emissions so they’re great for the kind of local pollutants that contribute to poor air quality in cities around the world. 
Nitrogen oxide, particulates, soot, black carbon, all the nasty stuff churned from the exhausts of petrol and diesel cars that people would rather keep out of their lungs is completely absent from a fuel cell vehicles. You just get a dribble of clean water (that you could drink, if you were absolutely desperate). 
Of course, there’s more to being green that eliminating exhaust emissions. The hydrogen to power hydrogen cars has to come from somewhere and to produce it in the quantities needed to run significant numbers of cars you’d need a lot of electricity. As with pure electric cars, if that electricity is generated from zero-emissions sources like solar, tidal or wind, a hydrogen fuel cell car can be truly zero emissions in its use phase.
If the electricity to make the hydrogen is generated from coal-fired power stations the green credentials are somewhat less impressive, and a lot more difficult to calculate. It’s a similar story with the whole-life emissions of fuel cell cars, the environmental effect of building and disposing of them in significant numbers is difficult to put a figure on for such a new technology.
It’s worth remembering that fuel cell powertrains are much more efficient at getting energy out of fuel that petrol or diesel engines. Where you could expect an internal combustion-engined car to get 20 to 25% of the energy out or its petrol or diesel, fuel cells can use around 60% of the energy contained in their hydrogen fuel, so the core efficiency of the technology is very strong.    

Could a hydrogen car make sense in the UK?

The idea of driving a hydrogen fuel cell car in the UK is quite compelling, the reality is a little more problematic.
The key issue in the ‘against’ column is a complete absence of the kind of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure that would be needed for people to use hydrogen cars effectively in this country. 
There are currently 11 hydrogen refuelling stations in the UK and 4 are available to the public so unless you happen to be close to one (and even if you do), shelling out over £65k on a Toyota Mirai would be a very bold move indeed. Although this will be cheaper if you're a fleet or business owner with the Government offering 75 per cent off purchase and the first three years of ownership.
If we ignore the chronic shortage of opportunities to fill them up with hydrogen in the UK, the fuel cell car does make a lot of sense. The hydrogen tank puts an end to long waits while the battery recharges and can give a range of up to 300 miles.
If the idea of driving around in your car accompanied by a tank of highly compressed hydrogen conjures up the grainy footage of the Hindenburg, fear not. Hydrogen is actually a very safe fuel. If it leaks it rises into the atmosphere so quickly that combustion is very unlikely and the tanks used in cars have been extensively safety tested. 
Meanwhile, the driving experience is basically that of an electric car, all but silent with an instant hit of acceleration when you need it. 

Can I buy a hydrogen car now?

Hydrogen cars do make more sense in countries with a more advanced hydrogen infrastructure than the UK’s and three models have gone on sale to the public, Hyundai’s ix35 FCEV, Honda Clarity FCV and the Toyota Mirai. 
There are also a number of other companies working on hydrogen vehicle technology and we’re likely to see the fruits of this labour emerging onto the market soon. DS 3 gets a fabulous upgrade courtesy of Givenchy











Only 500 examples of the DS 3 Givenchy Le MakeUp will be produced, featuring a bespoke makeup kit

Many small superminis adopt a fashion-led design, but the latest special-edition DS 3 goes one step further. DS has partnered with designer and cosmetic maker Givenchy to create the DS 3 Givenchy Le MakeUp, a limited-run model aimed squarely at a specific market. We wonder which?
To appeal to its mystery target buyers, the DS 3 Givenchy Le MakeUp features a special addition in the centre armrest – a bespoke Givenchy makeup kit, consisting of Le Rouge lipstick, Noir Couture mascara, Prisme Visage face powder, and Le Vernis nail polish in an exclusive ‘Whisper purple’ colour created especially for the car. Any self-respecting fashionista wouldn’t be seen in public without nails to match their optional purple convertible roof surround, after all.
The DS 3 Givenchy also debuts a new paint finish. Named Opaline White, it gives a matte, textured finish to the car, with what DS calls a ‘granular’ feel. The car is available as a hard-top or convertible, and both feature purple detailing on the roof, mirrors, and centre caps for the alloy wheels.
Inside, it’s more of the same, with bespoke floor mats and a centre armrest emblazoned with the Givenchy logo. The dash has been given a ‘Rose Pink’ makeover, and as the car is based on Elegance trim it comes complete with a 7-inch touch screen, black leather upholstery, climate control and automatic xenon headlights. A further nod to the ‘Le MakeUp’ side of the car is specially developed LED lighting for the interior mirrors – perfect for checking makeup before driving.
There’s little to worry about when ordering your DS 3 Givenchy Le MakeUp, as it comes with a single engine option – the excellent Pure Tech 110 unit. The three-cylinder turbo produces 108 bhp, and is available with automatic or manual gearbox options. And who knows? Perhaps this will open the flood gates for similar special editions. Keep your eyes peeled for a Volkswagen Make up! or a BMW iLiner.
Prices for the DS 3 Givenchy Le MakeUp start at £19,395 – a £3,000 leap over the standard Elegance model. Only 500 will be produced, and it will go on display at DS World Paris between May 10 and June 7.
